The Pride Playlist as voted for by readers

Pride is one big extravagant celebration of queerness, and music is a huge part of that! From prominent LGBT icons to cheesy anthems, to cult classics, this playlist has it all as voted for by readers of No Stunts. Is your favourite included?

  • I’m Still Standing by Elton John

This song was in the category for being a popular song by an inspiring LGBTQ+ artist. An impressive 78.9% of our readers voted for this song, earning it first place within its category.

  • Waterloo by ABBA

Love it or hate it, Eurovision is a massive part of queer culture. However, with so many amazing performances over the years, voters were conflicted within this category. However, with 68.4% of the votes, ABBA won the category.

Which of these Eurovision entries would make your playlist? 68.4%

  • Can’t Get You Out Of My Head by Kylie Minogue

Sometimes what makes a good Pride song is a good beat and a catchy chorus. This category had some fantastic options to choose from, but this song won the vote by 50%.

  • Dancing Queen by ABBA

When it comes to Pride, you can never have enough cheese! Apparently, you can also never have enough ABBA, who claimed victory for a second time over the rest of their category with 41% of the vote. Talk about taking the cheddar!

  • I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor

Go big or go home is a popular Pride theme, and you don’t get much bigger in voice, stage presence, or LGBTQ+ following as Gloria Gaynor, who swept the floor with the competition and claimed an impressive 89% of the vote.

  • Born This Way by Lady Gaga

Sometimes you need a song that resonates with your personal experience. There were several strong contenders within this category, but 50% of the voters felt they were able to identify with the idea of being proud of who you were born to be the most.

  • Medicine by Harry Styles

Looking only at the One Direction boys as solo artists – of course, we had to mention them once or twice! – 73% of voters felt that their playlist would be incomplete without the fun but evocative song Medicine.

  • Only The Brave by Louis Tomlinson

Again, focusing upon the One Direction boys, several of their solo songs hit a more sombre and poignant note. Louis won this category, with Only The Brave taking a highly impressive 89.5% of the vote.

  • No Control by One Direction

Lastly, when voters were told they had to pick only ONE One Direction song from this category, they had a little panic before 47.4% settled upon No Control as the category winner.

  • Barbie Girl by Aqua

What would a playlist be without a wild card – a song that has absolutely nothing to do with Pide whatsoever? 78.9% of voters decided that Barbie Girl was the clear winner and who can blame them? It’s catchy for a reason!

Not all of the songs could be winners, but second place is still an achievement and decent enough to be included in this playlist! These were the runners-up for each category!

  • Dancing In The Street by David Bowie and Mick Jagger

The runner-up in the ‘Inspiring LGBTQ+ Artists’ category was this absolute banger, as voted for by a respectable 31.6%.

  • Arcade by Duncan Laurence

15.8% of voters felt this song, although not as popular as ABBA, still deserved second place in the ‘Eurovision’ category.

  • Vogue by Madonna

Do you have a song stuck in your head? Well, if it isn’t Kylie Minogue, it will likely be Vogue by Madonna, who earned 33.3% of the votes in the ‘Earworm’ category.

  • It’s Raining Men by The Weathergirls

Perhaps not quite as popular as a good cheddar, this song still earned a fair 21.1% of the vote, making it the runner-up in our ‘Cheese’ category.

  • Freedom! By George Michael

Although dear old Georgie didn’t get as many votes as Gloria Gaynor, he did come in second with 5.3% of the vote in our ‘Go Big or Go Home’ category.

  • True Colours by Cyndi Lauper

22.2% of the voters agreed that, while not as strong a contender as Lady Gaga, Cyndi Lauper’s voice and lyrics create something they couldn’t help but identify with, earning her the runner-up position in our ‘Identify and Resonate’ category.

  • Strip That Down by Liam Payne

This song made it into second place behind Medicine by Harry Styles in our ‘1D Upbeat Solo’ category with 5.3% of the votes.

  • This Town by Niall Horan

However, it was Niall out of the boys who stole second place behind Louis in the ‘Sombre’ category with 5.3% of the vote.

  • Night Changers by One Direction

After the voters calmed down from having to make what some dubbed “Sophie’s Choice,” Night Changes managed to snag second place in the ‘One Direction Group’ category with 21.1%.

  • The Bad Touch (Discovery Channel) by The Bloodhound Gang

If you want a second wild card, just in case you lose your first one, then look no further than The Bloodhound Gang, who clowned their way into second place with 10.5% of the vote in our ‘Silly Song’ category. If you haven’t seen the music video, then definitely check it out. It might be nonsense, but fun nonsense nonetheless.
