For the month of August, No Stunts Magazine is diving into the world of summer concerts and the fans who bring these events to life. Here, we’re spotlighting one remarkable group with inspiring stories to share: “Louis Tomlinson Fans Over 50.” This Facebook group, which consists of nearly 1,000 dedicated admirers from around the globe, exemplifies how music can bridge generations and create lasting connections. These fans, all of whom are over the age of 50, have found camaraderie and joy through their shared love for Louis Tomlinson and other members of One Direction.
United by the belief that age is just a number, the members of this group have danced, sung, and attended concerts together, proving that you are never too old to feel young again. Their shared experiences and newfound friendships are a testament to the powerful impact music can have on our lives. In this interview, we speak with one of the admins from the group on X, delving into their experiences and the connections they’ve formed, all thanks to the therapeutic power of Louis Tomlinson’s music.
NS: Thank you so much for sharing your experiences with us today. To start, how long have you been a fan of Louis Tomlinson or the boys of One Direction?
@jthaus: 2 years! I came for Harry but stayed for Louis and then rediscovered 1D!
NS: In these two years, which show(s) or tour(s) have you been able to attend?
@jthaus: Two of Louis’ shows for the Faith in the Future World Tour, and two of Niall’s shows for The Show Live on Tour.
NS: Awesome! Of the four shows that you attended, were there any special moments in particular that stood out to you?
@jthaus: I was able to meet up with 40+ strangers at Louis’ show in San Juan (05 May 2024) and together we became more than just Louies—we became friends. One moment in particular proved to me that I picked some great Louies to be friends with—A member of our group brought her treasured Louis doll to the concert, and behind us was a young girl celebrating her 12th birthday. The birthday girl could not stop talking about the Louis doll and asked if she could get a picture with it. Game over—my friend gifted the precious Louis doll to the young birthday girl, and there were tears everywhere. My friend said, “I’ll find another one on eBay, but this little girl will never forget her birthday.” I will never ever forget this act of kindness.
The gifting of the doll in San Juan.
NS: That is so sweet and lovely. Were you guys able to participate in any fan projects?
@jthaus: There was a light project for Niall in Cincinnati that was great!
For Louis, our group made a raffle basket to give away that included a 28OP sweatshirt along with other Louis related items. We selected a charity in San Juan—Food for Love—which supplies healthy and fresh food to children (and their families) who are undergoing cancer treatments. We had no idea how it would go over, but I’m so proud of us for raising $2,500 for the charity! They were so appreciative, and we were blown away. Our group had never met before San Juan, but just like Louis’ song, “Together we’re the greatest.”
NS: Wow, that’s incredible! It sounds like you all had a great time. Is there anything else regarding your experiences that you’d like to share?
@jthaus: I just want to say—Take the chance. Don’t hesitate to go to the concerts and meet new people. Fandoms aren’t just for the young! And as far as Louis and Niall’s concerts go? Don’t worry about going alone… their fans are the best.
One of our group members, Laurie, lost her father, sister, and husband within five months of each other. She fell into a state of depression. During this difficult time, Laurie found Louis’ music and our group. She then made the decision to fly to San Juan, but since she booked last minute, her ticket wasn’t with us and she had to sit alone. When the concert was over, we met up with her and she collapsed in my arms and cried for about 15 minutes straight. It took everything I had to hold her up. We surrounded her and for the first time since losing them, she said she felt some kind of peace. She said it was a release of everything she had been holding in.
Talk about powerful—these artists sometimes have no idea the impact they have on people. Music isn’t always about the artist… sometimes it is about the community and connections they bring others.
NS: Very well said. Thank you so much once again for speaking with me today and sharing these memories. My heart has been warmed by the stories you’ve told.
@jthaus: This has been like therapy for me! Sometimes I forget what this group has done for so many… it’s always nice to go back and reflect.
